Prevent the Flu - Tips and Shot Locations Around Charlotte

Joseph Coupal - Wednesday, December 04, 2013

Unfortunately, flu season is here and it has come to Charlotte. The flu shot is recommended for people who live with or care for people at high risk and the health department recommends flu shots for everyone ages 6 months and older. Those who are around a lot of people throughout the day should also be vaccinated. Take care of yourself and your neighbors in your apartment in Charlotte, NC and get your flu shot if you have not already.

The flu shot is being offered at several locations around Charlotte. All forms of insurance are accepted and some locations will also make arrangements for people and students who are not insured or who can't afford to pay the out of pocket expense.

Here is more information on some of the locations where you can get a flu shot. You can also contact your physician for vaccination. Locations can run out of a vaccine. Please call ahead to confirm the vaccine is in stock.

To prevent the spread of the flu, use the following guidelines:

  • Get the flu vaccine – it is the single best way to prevent the flu and to protect yourself, your neighbors and your loved ones;
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand rub;
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way;
  • Try to avoid close contact with sick people;
  • Practice good health habits. Get plenty of sleep and exercise, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids and eat healthy foods;
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it. If a tissue is not available, sneeze or cough into your sleeve;
  • If you are sick with flu-like illness, stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone without the use of fever-reducing medicine; and
  • Use antiviral drugs if your doctor recommends them.

The flu shot is approved for use in people older than 6 months, including healthy people and people with chronic medical conditions. Often people wonder if they should get a flu vaccine or the “flu shot".
