Decorating Your New Apartment Home in Charlotte NC

Joseph Coupal - Monday, March 28, 2011

Finding your new apartment is just the first step in creating your home. Decorating makes your apartment feel like a home. It is important to create a space to come home to after a long day at work. It’s a good idea to start with a focal point for each room like a piece of furniture that can multitask. For example, in your living room, use a chest which could be used for storage and as a coffee table. Pick a piece of furniture you love or a color palette that feels inviting, and the rest will begin to fall into place. You can find affordable furniture at a number of stores as well as by asking around your new apartment community.

Once you've got the furniture in, it is time to make the space feel comfortable. There are several things you can do to warm up the space. Pay extra attention to lighting, which can make a room feel larger and increase the ambiance. You can use both natural and artificial light to make your apartment feel big and bright. Along with windows for natural light, lamps and ceiling lights can bring the effect you are looking for to your apartment.

Along with light, think about color selection as well. Use a fun and interesting color on the wall which will accent the quality craftsmanship, crown molding, or cathedral ceilings. Lighter colors on the walls and white ceilings with a darker floor, carpet, or throw rug will make the room look and feel larger and taller. For bright colors, you can use toss pillows with exciting and bold colors.

Accessorize your space with mirrors, plants, vertical pieces and lamps in vertical shape. Also, be sure to keep your eyes open at flea markets and garage sales for interesting items with character. If you keep the color, texture, and feel consistent in the items you buy, they're sure to look great in a room together. Greenery is a simple and inexpensive item that can enhance any room. Plants not only help to clean the air, they give your new place a splash of color and life. Enjoy your new apartment home.

Pet Questions to Ask Prospective Apartment Communities

Joseph Coupal - Monday, March 07, 2011

Oftentimes, our furry friends make the best roommates. But renting with pets can be challenging. Some apartments don’t allow pets, and pet deposits can be expensive. Ask the right questions before you move, however, and you can be sure to find a pet-friendly apartment.

Question one in your pet-friendly research is probably the most important: Does your prospective apartment community allow pets? If so, are there restrictions on species, size or breeds? Before you fill out an application for an apartment, be honest with your future landlord or apartment manager and tell them about your pet. Also, ask about the amount and the conditions of the pet deposit.

An environment that welcomes pets in apartments is not only tolerant of them, but also offers structural aspects that work for four-legged residents. Stairs, for instance, can be hard for some dogs to climb, especially small or older ones; a ground-floor unit might be preferable. Hardwood floors look great and make clean-up easier, but carpet is softer on dog and cat paws and dampens the sound if you have downstairs neighbors.

Some apartment communities offer a dog-walking area and clean-up stations, so tour the facilities to check for yourself. Find out if there are dog parks nearby or if there is a doggy daycare in the area in case your dog needs some extra attention during the day. Also, get a feel from your landlord for the number of pets in the apartment community and for other residents’ tolerance level when it comes to pets.

Renting with pets needn’t be fraught with stress and secrecy. Get the right details during your apartment search for a pet-friendly rental to share with your furry, feathered or scaled companion. If you are up front with your apartment manager and ask the right questions, you will have a better chance of finding a new apartment in which both you and your pet can be happy. Be sure to contact us today to learn more about our pet friendly apartments and what our community can offer for you.

Auston Woods Provides Some Insight on Renting vs. Buying

Auston Woods Provides Some Insight on Renting vs. Buying

We all need a place to call home but even with the real estate downturn, many people continue to think that buying a home is a good investment and a way for them to build wealth. When times were good, this was not really the case for most people. Wherever you choose to live, make sure it’s for the right reasons. Owning a home can be rewarding. Renting an apartment home with Auston Woods can also be very rewarding. Don’t just take our word for it - check out this article on Yahoo Finance - Why Your Home is not the investment you think it is. In recent months, the housing market, interest rates and the economy have been the focus of many news stories and are key issues in the political arena. Consumers have been inundated for years with visions of the American Dream and why homeownership is a great investment.

As seen with the recent housing crisis, homeownership may not be right for everyone.

  • If you bought in Rochester, N.Y., in 1980, you would have seen only a mediocre 4% annual growth for the next 25 years.
  • If you bought in Dallas in 1986, as the oil boom went bust, your home wouldn’t have appreciated at all before 1998.

It is also important to look at the “net appreciation”. Most people do not subtract all of the interest paid to the banks, maintenance, decorating costs, closing costs, taxes, and insurance from the appreciation. In many cases, especially if you do not own your home for more than a few years, there is not true appreciation and in more and more cases, there is negative appreciation. Many do not realize the real financial and practical advantages HHHunt residents experience every year when they decide to rent an apartment home at one of our communities.

There are just a couple of points to consider and think about. Renting is a long term investment and very rewarding. Especially in the North Carolina area we are a respected and very diverse community. Be sure to take a look at our communities and our activities we have to offer. Our unique apartment homes at Auston Woods combine convenience, comfort, and technology for today’s lifestyle in our apartment homes. Our beautiful interiors are designed to optimize the way you live, work, and play. Don't Leave Home Without your Renter's Insurance

Joseph Coupal - Friday, February 25, 2011
You’ve moved in, set up phone service and changed your mailing address. What’s left to do? Get renter’s insurance to protect your precious belongings from unexpected perils like theft, flood or fire! Renter’s insurance also covers your valuables kept in a garage and storage. Our property owner’s insurance covers the buildings, not personal valuables inside. You should also carry liability insurance in case there is a fire in the apartment and damage occurs, or if your apartment gets flooded apartment due to a water bed bursting.

Many renters understand the importance of renters insurance.  Though there is no law that says you must carry renter's insurance, you will certainly be able to sleep better at night knowing you are covered in the event of an emergency. Insuring your belongings is certainly advised by any landlord or property owner. When you carry renter's insurance, the policy covers all your personal belongings, regardless of their individual value. Whether it is an expensive heirloom or your cellular phone, your items are covered if something happens. The monthly cost of this type of insurance varies depending upon what you are covering with the policy.

It is important to understand that renter's insurance covers the items belonging to the policy holder.  Therefore, if you have a roommate or two, each person living in the residence would need their own policy. Otherwise, if only one person has a policy, that is the only person's belongings that are covered. There are different types of insurance policies that tenants can carry depending upon their needs. A tenant needs to understand the types of insurance available and choose the policy that is right for them.
  • The most expensive type of insurance to carry is replacement cost value insurance. This insurance replaces lost or damaged personal items at the price it was purchased for. This is good if you have an item that depreciates in value quickly but will cost you more monthly.
  • If you have a lot of jewelry or antiques, it may be in your best interest to take a policy that replaces items based on their current market value. This type of insurance is called actual cash value insurance. The monthly cost of this insurance is dependent upon what types of items you are insuring.
  • Lastly, there is liability insurance that is available to renters. This is good to have to insure yourself against injuries that take place inside your home. Should you be sued due to someone having an accident in your home, liability insurance will cover your medical expenses as well as the cost of your legal defense.
Please contact an insurance representative immediately for peace of mind. Auston Woods values the safety and happiness of their residents, which is why we suggest applying for renter's insurance to keep your belongings safe. As the old saying  goes it's better to be safe than sorry. Contact us today for more information and we'll be happy to help.

Auston Woods and HHHunt Are Committed to Green Living and Their Environment

Joseph Coupal - Thursday, January 27, 2011
Auston Woods Apartments, Charlotte, NC

Green living should become the motto of the present and future generations. It has become essential for all of us to educate our children about eco-friendly methods so that they learn to respect the environment they are born into. The love and respect for nature has to be inculcated right from childhood. Children of today are adults of tomorrow; hence values instilled today will reap rich dividends in the future.

The children who are brought up in a surrounding that is healthy and green would definitely get used to this kind of living. Therefore, when they grow up as citizens they will ensure that they do not do anything that would jeopardize the health of the planet. Which is why Auston Woods and HHHunt are committed to green living in all of our apartment homes.

There is a need today to develop new technologies which would facilitate green living. New researches are being done to find out new forms of green energy. The oil and coal reserves of our planet are fast depleting owing to massive industrialization.

We do our part to provide that all new communities developed by HHHunt save as many well-established trees as possible, and upon completion will exceed local standards for the size and number of trees re-planted within the community. Our company strives to exceed government standards for energy efficiency and water conservation during the development process and beyond. As a part of green living, people should be encouraged to use solar power for house lighting. These days, technology is also developed to run vehicles on solar power. Though, this is still in the gestation period, it would be a great alternative to gas and petrol used for running the vehicles.

The effects of irrational use of the natural resources should be explained to the people in detail. People in general have a tendency to misuse and waste fresh water. This has led to scarcity of water. Steps should be taken to curtail this wastage and make people more responsible. Similarly, people also tend to waste electricity by switching on lights unnecessarily. If one extra bulb is lit in every household, then imagine the amount power consumption. So we encourage you, our residents and customers, to join us in our efforts to sustain our environment.

Enhance Your Social Life if You Can Properly Do This

Joseph Coupal - Tuesday, January 25, 2011

High Five Anyone?

Beginning of the week tips that could save your social life from taking a huge plummet.  Every now and  then you come into contact with someone who just really doesn’t get the high five thing.  It’s okay.  You don’t have to loose friends over it or stress out to much.  We thought that you would enjoy this video about high five etiquette.

Here’s a short story about a person who came to our leasing office to looking to rent an apartment.  It was a young guy maybe in his mid-twenties. He looked like an average college student, he said he’d rather have off campus housing so he was interested is our apartment community because of the location.  The funny part is that he kept trying to high five everyone in the office anytime we said one bedroom apartment.  When I saw this video I thought about that young student.

Everyone in the office had high five fever after he left.  His High five’s were so good he could probably teach a class on this subject.

Let us know what you think about this video.
