The question has arisen more and more. Should I rent or buy? The answer is personal to your situation. While mortgage rates and housing prices are low, there is still a lot to be said for renting an apartment in Charlotte, NC.
Based on your financial situation, your job situation and frankly, how much time you want to spend on home repairs, the answer could be very different for every individual or family.
There is much to be said about renting. Sudden roof leaks or broken appliances can make your wallet take a hit. Unforeseen home expenses cannot really be incorporated into a budget.
If there is any possibility that you will not stay in the Charlotte area or that your job will relocate you, renting may be a better option. Closing costs and fees can really add up, not to mention the first several years of mortgage payments go to the interest alone not the principal.
But there is an even more practical reason for renting. Maybe you just don’t have any interest in home repairs and cutting the lawn. Apartments are the solution to maintenance free living without the condo fees. With so much to do in Charlotte, NC your time off should be your time off to spend however you like.
Talk to a financial advisor and review your expenses first when considering renting, but here is an easy calculator from HGTV to help you determine what you can afford.

Should you Rent in Charlotte?
Much to Do in Charlotte in October
Living in an apartment in Charlotte, NC, you certainly know how much this town can be. But October brings with it a special kind of fun only Halloween and Oktoberfest can bring. Auston Woods Apartments wants you to enjoy October, here are some events around town from Charlottesgotalot.com:
Running through October 30, SCarowinds unleashes more than 400 creepy creatures, zombies and beasts just in time for Halloween. Eleven nightmarish mazes and fright zones keep you on your toes, while two live spirited shows will have you screaming your heart out. For the wee ones, the park hosts Kids' Howl-o-Fest by day on weekends with Boo Blast activities ranging from the Mumpkin Patch to Trick-or-Treat Spots to a Foam Pit Zone.
Relax with a cold one at Charlotte's hometown brewery during Mecktober Fest at Olde Mecklenburg Brewery in October. Bands, food, and beer bring this German-style festival to life for the third annual year in South End. Then, one of this month's hottest tickets returns to Metrolina Tradeshow Expo October 8. Charlotte Oktoberfest taps will be flowing with more than 350 craft brewed beers from across the Southeast and around the world.
Both maddening and mesmerizing all at the same time, the Amazing Maize Maze at Historic Rural Hill sends you on an outdoor adventure in an intricate seven-acre labyrinth of corn. This year's fitness theme is the key to the kernels of knowledge and map pieces that will guide you to the finish line. Meanwhile, ghost tours by Carolina History & Haunts and Charlotte NC Tours guide you through Center City's supernatural sights. New this year, Charlotte NC Tours offers haunted segway and bicycle rides.
Auston Woods Provides Some Insight on Renting vs. Buying
We all need a place to call home but even with the real estate downturn, many people continue to think that buying a home is a good investment and a way for them to build wealth. When times were good, this was not really the case for most people. Wherever you choose to live, make sure it’s for the right reasons. Owning a home can be rewarding. Renting an apartment home with Auston Woods can also be very rewarding. Don’t just take our word for it - check out this article on Yahoo Finance - Why Your Home is not the investment you think it is. In recent months, the housing market, interest rates and the economy have been the focus of many news stories and are key issues in the political arena. Consumers have been inundated for years with visions of the American Dream and why homeownership is a great investment.
As seen with the recent housing crisis, homeownership may not be right for everyone.
- If you bought in Rochester, N.Y., in 1980, you would have seen only a mediocre 4% annual growth for the next 25 years.
- If you bought in Dallas in 1986, as the oil boom went bust, your home wouldn’t have appreciated at all before 1998.
It is also important to look at the “net appreciation”. Most people do not subtract all of the interest paid to the banks, maintenance, decorating costs, closing costs, taxes, and insurance from the appreciation. In many cases, especially if you do not own your home for more than a few years, there is not true appreciation and in more and more cases, there is negative appreciation. Many do not realize the real financial and practical advantages HHHunt residents experience every year when they decide to rent an apartment home at one of our communities.
There are just a couple of points to consider and think about. Renting is a long term investment and very rewarding. Especially in the North Carolina area we are a respected and very diverse community. Be sure to take a look at our communities and our activities we have to offer. Our unique apartment homes at Auston Woods combine convenience, comfort, and technology for today’s lifestyle in our apartment homes. Our beautiful interiors are designed to optimize the way you live, work, and play. Auston Woods and HHHunt Are Committed to Green Living and Their Environment
Green living should become the motto of the present and future generations. It has become essential for all of us to educate our children about eco-friendly methods so that they learn to respect the environment they are born into. The love and respect for nature has to be inculcated right from childhood. Children of today are adults of tomorrow; hence values instilled today will reap rich dividends in the future.
The children who are brought up in a surrounding that is healthy and green would definitely get used to this kind of living. Therefore, when they grow up as citizens they will ensure that they do not do anything that would jeopardize the health of the planet. Which is why Auston Woods and HHHunt are committed to green living in all of our apartment homes.
There is a need today to develop new technologies which would facilitate green living. New researches are being done to find out new forms of green energy. The oil and coal reserves of our planet are fast depleting owing to massive industrialization.
We do our part to provide that all new communities developed by HHHunt save as many well-established trees as possible, and upon completion will exceed local standards for the size and number of trees re-planted within the community. Our company strives to exceed government standards for energy efficiency and water conservation during the development process and beyond. As a part of green living, people should be encouraged to use solar power for house lighting. These days, technology is also developed to run vehicles on solar power. Though, this is still in the gestation period, it would be a great alternative to gas and petrol used for running the vehicles.
The effects of irrational use of the natural resources should be explained to the people in detail. People in general have a tendency to misuse and waste fresh water. This has led to scarcity of water. Steps should be taken to curtail this wastage and make people more responsible. Similarly, people also tend to waste electricity by switching on lights unnecessarily. If one extra bulb is lit in every household, then imagine the amount power consumption. So we encourage you, our residents and customers, to join us in our efforts to sustain our environment.

5 Great Helpful Rules To Guide You Through Renting An Apartment
A number of rules you come across are golden, to be kept in mind always and never forgotten. These are useful and important trail markers to lead us and let us to stay always on the right track. Golden Rules exist to guide you, must be followed, to be used. So here are 5 golden rules to remember when renting an apartment.
- Check out the community. The tried and tested reason behind carrying it out in this way is to check if there can be any safety issues. Keep in mind, iron bars on windows of the apartments or rental homes may be a red flag. Painted words or pictures on the neighborhood walls, walkways or apartment buildings are also a sign that it may not be a great neighborhood.
- See whether the rental home is near public utility vehicles, bus or train station. You need to take into account this carefully whether you have a car or not. Bear in mind that it is best to ensure you can quickly get around the area even if you or other family members renting with you who don't have access to your own car.
- Find out how good the schools are near the rental home or apartment you are looking at renting. The reason that this is very important is since the majority of the kids go to public schools run by the county. Kids will need to go to their school according to the jurisdiction of their residence. So prior to moving in, if you have kids of school age, it is advisable to check out how good the schools are for the apartment building. This could very well be one of the most significant deciding factor in choosing an apartment to rent.
- Consider which utilities happen to be included in the rent. Numerous utilities to think are electricity, water, gas, heat, Internet, cable and phone. There are various ways of accomplishing this, such as and probably the easiest way is to check with the landlord or property manager. You may also want to confirm the details you get from the landlord by asking existing renters, or vice versa.
Review the rental agreement. The lease contract can include the rental amounts and terms, the rental deposit, damage deposit, length of stay, rules of conduct while living in the rental home, guest, pets and other house policies, termination requirement and many more. It is vital because it has all the right information about the rental home. And it is a written and signed contract that you can present to the court or other authorities in the event the management failed to abide by what you have agreed upon.
Blues Music and BBQ with Time Warner Cable All Day Friday
The Time Warner Cable BBQ & Blues event will be taking place this Friday from 11:AM to 11:PM. There will be enough Blues music, Beer and BBQ for everyone in Center City Charlotte on Friday. Most of the Blues musicians will perform on the 300 South Tryon main stage. There will be so many other things to participate in all day long as well, like the Breyers Ice Cream sampling and Bud 55 Select Beer Balloon, which really sounds so funny. A Beer Balloon, really?
You can see a schedule of the bands and chef’ along with the catering schedule at FindYourCenter.com
Blues, Beer and BBQ
One of the things I like about this Friday Time Warner Cable BBQ & Blues event is that whether you drink beer or not you’ll enjoy it. Plus it’s an all day event so it doesn’t matter what time you go to work you can make it out. You could even sleep in and stay at Auston Woods Apartments all day long, then once you decided to finally go outside you would still have some Blues, BBQ and good music. We do strongly advise not being lazy all day but we are advocates of rest. That’s just a little FYI, take it in strides.
